Castlegar and Area FireSmart Collaborative

The Castlegar and Area FireSmart Collaborative focuses on implementing and strengthening the seven FireSmart disciplines throughout our geographic region and across jurisdictional boundaries. The Collaborative evaluates, reviews, and develops procedures, guidelines, and best practices while promoting FireSmart resources and information through education, outreach, and public engagement.

A primary objective of the Collaborative is to foster open communication and strong working relationships among partner organizations. By maintaining clear lines of communication, members can share information, coordinate activities, and avoid operating in silos while working toward the common goal of increasing wildfire resilience throughout the region.

Membership includes representatives from local and provincial governments, First Nations, forest industry partners, utility providers, railway operators, post-secondary institutions, and local organizations and societies.

The Collaborative aims to meet on a quarterly basis through a combination of in-person and hybrid meeting formats.
